PRP, also known as platelet rich plasma therapy, is one of the many treatment options for those who have hair loss. While this might be a beneficial treatment plan, it is not suitable for every type of hair loss and is best seen on a case-to-case basis. Individuals who have hair thinning, are usually the ideal candidates but not always.
In PRP, the patient’s own platelet cells from their blood are used to stimulate hair growth. PRP is produced by the patient’s own platelet cells extracted from their blood.
Platelets are a part of our blood cells which have various growth factors and proteins which accelerate healing.
These growth factors have the potential to stimulate tissue regeneration and hair growth.
During the appointment, a small sample of blood, less than 20ml is taken from the patient. The blood sample is placed in a centrifuge and the PRP is extracted.
PRP is then injected into the areas that have hair loss with a very small needle.
PRP can be combined with other treatments which also help with hair growth. Overall, patients will find an increase in hair counts, thickness, root strength, and a decrease in alopecia.
Usually, there is no limitations to return to your activities after PRP treatment.
